House hunters are most active on Tuesday evenings, right in the middle of the workweek.

In the midst of today’s red-hot housing market, Americans are sitting in their home offices, “working” remotely and browsing Redfin for bigger, fancier home offices … right?

Wrong. The most popular time of the week to search for homes on Redfin.com is Tuesday at 8 p.m., according to Redfin search data from January and February 2022. That’s after regular work hours, post-dinner, pre-bedtime, smack dab in the middle of the workweek. Redfin.com users are spicing up otherwise run-of-the-mill Tuesday evenings by daydreaming about a new home–or seriously searching for a new home.

Before the pandemic, Thursday at 8 p.m. was the most popular time of week to look at Redfin.com home listings–also a weeknight after regular work hours.

There are fewer Redfin searches on Friday evenings than any other weeknight. Hopefully that means Americans are enjoying their Friday nights, doing something more fun than searching for homes online … although we would argue there’s nothing more fun than searching for homes online!

The data in this report is from searches on Redfin.com or the Redfin app in January and February 2022. In the chart above, 100 represents the average; for example, there’s  an average amount of activity on Redfin.com on Mondays around 9 a.m. Anything over 100 means there’s more activity than average.
